Title: Secondary Literacy Product Manager
Department: Marketing, Longmont CO
Classification: Full-time,-exempt
Purpose: The responsibilities will include managing all marketing functions for the Secondary Literacy product lines, strategizing marketing plans from product inception through launch, leading the marketing communications team to develop all product promotions including print, direct mail and on-line channels.
The Product Manager, a pivotal member of the Sopris West marketing team, will help to shape the message delivered to customers and increase market penetration as the company continues its rapid growth. An educational background is desired but not required. A Bachelors degree or higher in Business, Marketing or Education is required; along with the ability to develop a strategic marketing plan and manage the implementation of tactical programs.
Responsibilities and activities:
Responsibility: Business Development Plan
Duties include: developing and managing a three-year business plan and product/service roadmap by managing the secondary literacy products/services throughout their lifecycle to meet strategic and financial objective within an annual budget. Additionally, assisting in the development of product/services P and L.
Responsibility: Product Sponsorship
Duties include: developing targeted, high-level sales presentations; training the sales force; presenting to and interacting with customers to respond to customer needs and inquiries, communicating effectively and building and maintaining an effective working relationship with program authors and customers; developing annual marketing plans to strategically deploy various marketing tactics that promote the secondary literacy product lines. Additionally, working closely with sales support, and assisting in the development of promotional strategies that respond to overall product positioning and messaging needs.
Responsibility: Adoption Needs
Duties include: working with the adoption team to review adoption criteria and recommend title submissions; preparing the necessary product briefs and pertinent documents for submission, and overseeing and managing the necessary correlations through direct interaction with correlation contractors.
Responsibility: Market Knowledge
Duties include: overseeing and evaluating the educational and demographic factors that influence the competition by attending product-applicable conferences; reviewing and evaluating the existing competitors, providing the strategic analysis to minimize the effects of the competition, and providing the necessary talking points for the sales force to position the products against the competition; Additionally, working closely with sales advisory groups and sales support to position the secondary literacy products to better minimize the effects of competitive activity.
Responsibilitiy: Marketing Services and Sales Support
Duties include: coordinating with marketing and sales support staff to strategize, develop, and implement marketing initiatives, brainstorming best practices and innovative marketing campaigns, ensuring product positioning and messaging is clearly conveyed within all marketing activities; and provide key content information to effectively promote the secondary literacy products.
Responsibility: Editorial Contributions
Duties include: collaborating with appropriate editorial team and participating in product development through the communication of market needs, developing pricing and configuration of product components to effectively compete within the market, competitive influences, and customer feedback.
Responsibility: Additional Marketing Support
Duties include: providing additional marketing support as deemed appropriate by Director of Product Management which may include developing sales presentations, answering customer inquiries, training sales force, and developing promotional strategies to promote and position additional literacy needs.
Interacts: This position interacts with employees, customers, authors, trainers, and vendors, sales reps and managers of Sopris West.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: This position requires a highly motivated individual that can effectively work within a fast-paced, time-sensitive deadline driven environment. Knowledge of web searching, Excel, Microsoft Word, Power Point, is necessary to complete day-to-day operations. Excellent organizational and follow up skills are required for the development of Marketing plans and budgets. Good people skills are important for interacting with Sopris customers, staff sales reps, trainers, authors, decision makers. Knowledge base of product is important for professional communication.
Organizational Chart: This position reports directly to, and is supervised by the Director of Product Management. Additionally, the Director of Product Management is the day-to-day source of information and guidance. The Director of Marketing Services back up during the absence of the Director of Product Management.
